This sounds like a reputable breeder to me. Breeders main interest is preserving the breed, and producing dogs that are quality and are able to be registered. The fact that the dogs that are not show quality must be spayed/neutered is great! While these dogs are fabulous pets, their less desirable physical traits must be kept out of future bloodlines.
The breeder is willing to share her own information, and is definitely interested in the home that her dogs will have. Again, awesome signs! She wants her dogs to go to quality, loving homes. She wants to make sure that the buyer has a great experience, and a great dog, and, most importantly, a dog that will fit in with you and your family. You are more likely to buy from her again, or to let your family and friends know about her.
And yes, there are thousands of dogs without a home, and many rescues that deal with specific breeds. But, when you DO buy from a breeder, taking time to make sure that the breeder is legit and not just someone who cranks out dogs without care and concern for the breed is key. It keeps dogs out of shelters in the future, and gives one less sale to a pet store that may buy dogs from puppy mills. Good luck!

There is nothing wrong with buying a dog from a respectable breeder. When we come down on people it is because they are buying ridiculously priced designer fake breed from people that think a puppy is a paycheck.
When people ask "what kinda breed do I want" then of course we are going to say shelter.

I don't see anything wrong with what you described the breeder to be. She sounds responsible to me. She does health testing and can show proof of testing on sire and dam. She required the pet puppy be spayed/neutered and if for some reason buyer couldn't keep the dog it came back to her. It sounds like my contract. When I was breeding I only bred when I was looking for my next show dog but with the way the economy is now I haven't bred a litter for several years. I also had some people that I would not sell a puppy to for various reasons.
I have noticed in DS a number of people that don't distinguish between responsible breeders and BYB. I am pro adoption and have sent many people to petfinders/breed rescues for purebreds as well as mixed breeds. I am anti BYB for obvious reasons they only want the money and have little concern for the health of the dog or the heartbreak of the new puppy buyer that buys unhealthy pups and don't know the difference and end up with large vet. bills and a breeder that will not answer their calls. A responsible breeder will be your friend forever and always be there to answer questions.

No, your breeder sounds great. Real breeders actually make very little off breeding their dogs because they have their dogs checked regularly and feed high quality food. A great breeder will always take her dogs back in any case because unlike BYB she cares about her dogs! I am all for adopting a dog from shelters, but i have also purchased dogs too. I think you made a responsible decision when you chose your breeder.
